Trucks queuing for the port were starting to block the highway

Yes, it’s lazy, not exactly realistic, but.... it works?

I mean it won’t speed trucks up but it really improves safety and general traffic flow if they were impeding on the roadway. Sometimes good engineering is so simple it looks lazy and poor engineering looks thoughtful but introduces too much complexity.

Solution to trafic: make roads look like karting circuitsml.

Well the trucks don’t stop trafic as much anymore... But it’s pretty much Cities Skylines having simple coding that doesn’t allow for complex traffic interactions.

But it works! Now the trucks don’t stop as long, flow improved a bit since they take longer to arrive and they don’t need to qeue as long.

I mean in almost any case it wouldn’t work but if trucks are in the way and there is no way to offload them faster giving them more space to wait is a good solution

Is it wrong that I looked at that and thought, “Where are the hot pits and staging? I’d like to do a half-day of lapping there.”?

Not a gamer, so I Googled that... that’s pretty damn cool. Would still gladly pay to hot lap it IRL. I wonder if there are any actual amateur-accessible tracks that have any coastal/water features of any real note?

Water features... Not that I know of... Maybe Laguna Seca?

Needs the traffic mod to control lane changes though.

I never knew you could connect train lines to ports- is that a mod?

Ever since I bought the game it came with it, it’s called a cargo hub

But then I made a new industrial area to the north that only conects by train/car and the cargo hub’s traffic declined significantly

Hmm, must be from one of the DLCs.

My industrial area is a complete wasteland which I have zero chance of ever sorting out...

What I do is that I make islands connected by train and metro with trolleys inside and then chose the “old town” option that bans all foreign vehicles... Less traffic. Then, you can make industrial areas have good outside connections.

I play in free mode, so all this development is pretty much artificial and it wouldn’t follow a city’s tipical development

Oh yeah, that at least has a view of the water at points, I think.

What game is that? A version of Sim City? Haven’t played something like that in a long time but I’d love to get back into it...

Cities Skylines.... It’s not an EA game, but EA pretty much ruined sim city...

That’s awesome... can’t wait to check it out when I get home from work. Can you play against/with friends/randos or is it strictly solo?

I can’t remember the last version of Sim City that I played, but it’s probably been at least ten years. I liked the premise of the latest version but heard it had a lot of problems and I haven’t seen it in person...

I think it’s solo....

Sim City 4 was pretty good, but the latest sim city isn’t as flexible. Cities Skylines on the other hand is a bit difficult to get used to at first, but it’s a great game. It’s been out for a long time now, so I don’t know if a new version might be coming out.. Right now it has a lot of DLCs and Steam has a lot of mods for it.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who adopts the “add more roads until it works school of knowledge” when it comes to Cities.

I just read a little about it, and I didn’t realize that it was created by the same people that did Cities in Motion, which I’ve played before with mixed success...

Argh, the sharp angled grids. My European sensibility can’t handle them.

It’s more space efficient...

I am using the very European roundabouts... I wonder if there’s a mod that adds ramp meters
